Google’s parent company, Alphabet hosted its earnings forecast for Q1 2019. While investors weren’t entirely pleased by the $36.33 Billion annual revenue or the 17 percent YoY earnings increase, we were pleased when Alphabet dropped further confirmation to the announcement of new hardware in Google I/O 2019. The company admitted that the Google Pixel lineup is currently facing pressure in the smartphone marketplace.
With regard to hardware results, whereas the first quarter results reveal pressures in the smartphone business, we’re pleased with the ongoing momentum for Assistant empowered Home devices, especially the Home Hub and Mini devices, and anticipate our May seventh announcement at I/O from the Hardware team. This may be a reference to the Nest Hub Max which was later spotted online, but we believe that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL may also be launched in Google I/O 2019 based on other signs.
Google also recognizes the pressure from the company to pursue a smartphone segment, that provides a reason behind the company to pursue a lower priced device. Further on in the earnings call, Google Chief executive officer Sundar Pichai voiced his optimism with the operation of Google’s hardware lineup and also its breadth and thickness, alluding that they will build a strong foundation in hardware. Next, I will give an update on cloud attempts and our hardware.
