Elementary School Project Contract Awarded

KIMBALL – In his report to the selectboard on Tuesday, Town Manager Shaun Suhoski said a number of competitive bids were received for the new elementary school project and the school building committee recently voted to award the contract to Fontaine Brothers.

Young Students Have Opportunity to SOAR at Kinder Hill

Students at Kinder Hill School are SOAR-ing this school year thanks to a new approach to teaching positive behaviors and social skills. SOAR is an acronym for Safe, On Task, Always Kind and Respectful. It is part of a positive approach to teaching expectations, adopted by many schools across the country, called Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports or PBIS.

Seeking New Leaders in South Haven

With a scarcity of candidates in the November election, the South Haven City Council began the 2015 shorthanded by one member.  Gene Edwards presided over the meeting as the new mayor after former Mayor John Lemke decided not to seek re-election. Having served on the council as mayor in the past, he wasn’t unfamiliar with the duties, but admitted that he had some adjusting to do. “I’m a little rusty. It’s been 10 years,” he said.

Officials Comment on Proposed Ban

Town officials were asked today for comment on the Board of Health’s proposed ban on tobacco sales in that town, and whether they could foresee a similar ban being proposed locally. Board of Health chair Joan Hamlett, also a Tobacco Control Alliance compliance agent, said, “As tobacco agent for 34 towns, all my boards of health were aware and all public health eyes have been on Westminster’s effort, but at this time no other board of health has it on the agenda.

Hudson Indians Drill Raiders 63-40

The Hudson High School boys’ basketball team came crashing back to reality Monday night. After dismantling Narragansett Friday night, expectations were high for the Raiders. Athol fans may have gotten a little ahead of themselves as Turners Falls waltzed into Mallet Gymnasium and beat down the Raiders for a 63-40 victory.
